Val Berglund, age 81, of Carrington, ND, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at MedCenter One Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Valborg Ruby Woldseth was born April 23, 1928, on a farm 6½ miles east of Edmore, ND, the daughter of Hans and Marie (Hovde) Woldseth. She attended grades 1-8 at the Newland School, a country school 3 miles east of Edmore. She attended Edmore High School, graduating in 1946. Val then attended Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, WA, in 1947 – 48. She transferred to Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, and graduated with a B.A. degree in Home Economics and Education in 1951. Val also attended summer sessions at Colorado Sate University at Greeley, CO, in 1952 and 1953. She taught Home Economics in schools located at Steele, ND, Carrington, ND, and Milbank, SD. She also taught numerous night adult education classes for school, homemaker’s clubs, and the Foster County Extension Service.
Val was united in marriage to Gerald Berglund at Edmore, ND, on June 16, 1957. They have lived in Carrington since that time where she was a loving wife to Gerald and a proud mother of three sons.
Her hobbies included sewing, crafts, and decorating, and she was interested in church and community projects and served in numerous positions. Val was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was currently serving on the Foster County Social Services board, having served since 1967.
She is survived by her husband Gerald, Carrington; three sons, Dr. Greg (Patty), North Oaks, MN, Dr. Doug (Barb), Bismarck, ND, Dr. Howard (Kim), Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, Kalley Heiligenthal, Rosie, Annie, Tom, Derek, Andrea, Abby, Adam, Jenna, Allegra and Olivia Berglund; one brother, Harold (Darlene) Woldseth, Edmore, ND; two sisters, Bergit Bakke, Park River, ND and Astry Skjelbostad of Edina, MN.
Val was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Edroy Woldseth; and three sisters, Gladys Lloyd, Helene Brausseur, and Sylvia Ness.
