Elmer Hertel, age 84, of rural Edmunds, ND, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Elmer Hertel was born on November 30, 1926, the son of Charles and Bertha (Hanson) Hertel at Kensal, ND. He was raised at Edmunds and attended school in rural Stutsman County. Elmer did many jobs during his life including ranching, brand inspector, driving truck for Clark Truck Line, and working at Carrington Livestock Auction.
On September 27, 1951, Elmer was united in marriage to Catherine Hallwachs in Carrington, ND. They shared their life on a ranch south of Carrington, where they raised their children.
He enjoyed buying bulls and working with cattle, and raised and contracted bucking bulls for rodeos. Elmer was a member of the ND Stockman’s Association.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Catherine, Edmunds; four children, RosaLee Veen, Williston, ND, Cherrie Evans, Valrico, FL, Robert Hertel, Santa Clarita, CA, Betsey Hertel, Pingree, ND; one grandson, Grant Veen, Bismarck, ND; two great grandchildren, Brandon and Taylor; two sisters, Elaine Fruhwirth, Huntington Beach, CA, and Kathyrn Sims, Irvine, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ted Hertel; and a sister, Doris Jenson.
