Frank “Shorty” Lemert Jr., 92, of Carrington, ND, died on Friday December 2, 2011at the Carrington Health Center.
Frank was born in Carrington on April 24, 1919, the son of Frank and Amelia (Mittelsdorf) Lemert. He attended country school in rural Birtsell Township. He worked on the family farm near Lemert, ND, until he was drafted into the Army at the start of World War 2 in May 1942. He served in the South Pacific in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Korea until being Honorably discharged in December 1945.
After returning from the war, he resumed farming and working various jobs in the Carrington area. On June 3, 1955, Frank was united in marriage to Marlene Kuske in Carrington. They made their home in Carrington, before moving to a farm in Birtsell Township in 1958. They continued to farm until 1984, when they retired and moved back to Carrington.
He was a life member of the VFW and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene; a son Gary (Lynne) of Denver, IA; a daughter Barb (Terry) Tenneson of Carrington and a step-daughter Pam (Ron) Leopoldt of Pasco, WA; 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Mary Lemert, Fort Wayne, IN; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
