Christiane Marcelle Galt

Christiane Marcelle Galt, aka Chris, age 81 yrs old, of Bismarck, ND. Resided in Choctaw, OK (for the past 9 months) died on March 22, 2012, at home with Dominique and Annick (Mom’s sister) at her side in Choctaw, OK.

Born in Langrune Sur Mer, Calvados, Normandy, France on March 12, 1931, the eldest daughter of Felix and Eugenie Colle.

Chris had two brothers, Jean-marie, Claude, and one sister, Annick. She grew up in Langrune, where her parents owned a bakery and experienced the Normandy D-day landing as a young girl. She would tell stories of putting on concerts (she played the cello) to raise money for the soldiers. After HS graduation, she went to England to attend nursing school. While in England, Chris was united in marriage to Fern E. Galt (aka Bill), who was an Air Force Staff Sergeant stationed in England. They married March 7, 1953 in Essex, England, when Bill brought Chris to North Dakota in 1955, she thought he had brought her to the great wilderness. Chris and Bill had four children, whom were born in various countries. Chris, Bill, and the kids enjoyed a great life with the Air Force for 27 years, of which most were spent in either France or England. Chris loved to travel. Upon Bill’s retirement in 1974 from the Air Force, they settled in Bismarck, ND.

Chris loved to bowl and enjoyed swapping jokes with all her friends. Chris also loved to work in her yard, listening to opera and classical music, and loved to spoil her dogs and cats. Feeding the birds and squirrels in the winter brought Chris much joy, as the many birdhouses and squirrel feeders mom had up showed. She always had treats for the neighborhood dogs when they came to her back patio. Chris also loved to go to Carrington and help Jewel and Marlene at Jewels flower shop. Chris also very much adored being around her grandkids and great grandchildren and would spoil them every chance she got.

She is survived by her children, Anick (Arnold) Wallace, Rose Hill, KS, Montie (Claudine) Galt, Bismarck, ND, Dominique Wilfong, Choctaw OK, Donnie (aka Sam), Macon, GA. Grandchildren, Vaughn McElfresh, Wasilla, AK; Michelle (Justin) Loesch, Mobridge, SD; Natallie Schmidt, Flasher, ND, Desiree (Nicholas) Holland, Midwest City, OK, and Derek Galt, Macon, GA. Great Grandchildren, Tanner and Jaelyn Loesch; Leandra and Ayden Schmidt; Brock and Drake Holland. Her sister, Annick (Ed) Simmons of Plano, TX. Sisters in law June (Andy) Johnston, Anchorage, AK, and Marlene (Bob) Scott, Carrington, ND, Rosette Colle, Ouistreham, France, brother in law Darrell (Carol) Galt, Bismarck, ND, and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in both the US and France. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, “Buddy”.

Chris is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill Galt 6-11-2011.

It’s hard to understand why mom was taken from us, but we can find comfort in knowing we were a special part of a well-lived life. Mom was a loving, giving, and caring person who enjoyed life to its fullest.

Message: I am so very sorry for your loss. Please know that God will comfort and sustain you. Psalms 34:18 says that He is near to those broken at heart and saves those crushed in spirit. He truly knows the pain you feel. He assures us at John 5:28 that a time will soon come when we will welcome back to our arms those we have lost. Know that time is very near. Allow God to comfort your soul until that day arrives. Please keep His promises close to your heart. I offer my deepest sympathies to your entire family.
