Gary Rekkedal, age 56, of Oberon, ND, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Fairfield, ND.

Gary Lee Rekkedal, was born on July 5, 1954, the son of Anton and Clarice (Myhre) Rekkedal in Devils Lake, ND.  Gary attended school in Minnewaukan and was confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan.  On November 14, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Lynn Schwols in Minnewaukan.  Gary worked for the Farmers Union Elevator and Nelson Ranch at Oberon.  For the past 30 years he has worked for Border States Paving of Fargo, ND.  Gary was a member of the Oberon City Council, Oberon Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon.

Every Fall, Gary looked forward to being laid off to spend the winter months with his family.  He loved his grandkids who knew him as “Papa Gary”.  He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash music, cooking, and going deer hunting. Gary was known for his ability to fix things and for his acts of kindness.

Gary is survived by his wife Lynn, Oberon, ND; daughter Amanda (Zac) Mahler, Minot, ND; grandchildren Anthony, Breanne, Karissa and Odin; one sister Darleen (Brad) Gangl, Bottineau; two brothers Edward (Bev), Arvilla, ND; and Curtis (Sandra), of VA; stepfather Harold O. Johnson, Devils Lake, ND; stepbrother Rob (Karen) Johnson, Portland, OR; stepsister Linda Stephan, Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Anton Rekkedal, mother Clarice Johnson,  his father and mother-in-law, Wallace and Carol Schwols, stepbrother Darrell Johnson, and sister-in-law Thelma Rekkedal.
