Harlow Hagel, age 91, of Carrington, ND, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.
Harlow Roy Hagel was born on March 12, 1921, the son of Christ and Katie (Otto) Hagel south of Sykeston, ND, in the New Home area. He was raised and attended country school in the New Home area and attended Sykeston High School. Harlow farmed in the New Home area on the family farm.
In 1944, Harlow married Ellen McDonald and in 1947, they bought a farm near Carrington. From this marriage, they have three children. Harlow farmed and raised quarter horses. They later divorced.
On December 12, 1974, Harlow was united in marriage to Pat McCleery. They lived on the farm until Harlow retired in 2000, and then moved to Carrington.
Harlow enjoyed raising quarter horses and working on Fordson tractors. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a lifetime member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Harlow is survived by his wife, Pat of Carrington; one daughter, DeEtta Kay (George) Aljets and two sons, Dennis (Carla) Hagel and Kelly (Becky) Hagel, all of Carrington; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alma Wittleton, Mountain Home, ID, June Kadoun, Boise, ID, Harriet Bidwell, Goodlettsville, TN, and Fran Newell, Grand Junction, CO; one stepson, Donny Schmid, Bismarck, ND; and two step granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clifford.
