Sanford Milton Strand, age 85, of Sheyenne, ND, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.

Sanford Milton Strand was born July 11, 1926, in Spearville, KS, the son of Knute and Gunhild (Rue) Strand. He grew up on a farm outside of Sheyenne and served in the US Army 1950-1952. On November 26, 1957, Milton was united in marriage to Solveig Brenden at Sheyenne, and they spent the next 45 years living in Sheyenne. Milton worked for Sheyenne Sand & Gravel in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Prior to his retirement he worked for Logan Oil in Sheyenne. In 2005, Milton moved to New Rockford. Solveig died on September 5, 2007.

Milton enjoyed playing guitar and listening to bluegrass music. He was a member of Dakota Ramblers, a band that played in the Sheyenne area in the mid-60’s and 70’s. Milton was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the VFW, both of Sheyenne

He is survived by one son, Daniel Strand, West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Judy Strand (David Murphy), Roseville, MN; one brother, Rodney (Sheila) Strand, Holdrege, NE.

Milton was preceded in death by his wife, his brother Marvin, and three sisters, Gwen Sheldon, Marjorie Winter, and Myra Longnecker.
