Elsie Schafer, age 96, of New Rockford, ND, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
Elsie Laura Jungkeit was born March 9, 1913, in Hamberg Township of Wells County, ND, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Dablow) Jungkeit. She grew up and attended country school in the Hamberg area.
On May 14, 1935, Elsie was united in marriage to John Schafer at St. James Catholic Church, Minnewaukan, ND. They lived on the Schafer family farm near Bremen, ND, until 1966, when they moved into New Rockford. John Schafer died October 1, 1996. Elsie lived at Heritage House for a time, prior to moving into Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in 2002.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, rural Bremen. Elsie enjoyed playing cards, cross-stitching and gardening.
She is survived by one son, Philip (Linda) Schafer of New Rockford; one daughter, Phyllis (Frank) Rausch of Kalispell, MT; six grandchildren: Jeff (Leann) Schafer, Brenda (Dean) Krogen, Pam (Todd) Johnson, Dee Ann (Eric) Bock, Jason (Kamie) Rausch, and Roxanne (Bob) Schneiderwind; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 6 brothers and one sister.
