Janet Higgins, age 46, of Carrington, ND, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, at her home under Hospice care.
Janet Sue Dell, the daughter of Oscar and Lea (Haugstad) Dell, was born on July 14, 1962 in Carrington, ND. She was raised in Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School. She attended Bismarck Junior College in Bismarck, ND and MSUM in Moorhead, MN.
On June 3, 1983, Janet married Rod Higgins in Carrington, ND. They lived in the Woodworth area for many years before returning to Carrington, where they shared their life together. Janet worked at the Woodworth Public School, Security State Bank of Carrington, and Carrington Health Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. Janet had a passion for quilting, making many beautiful quilts. She belonged to Carrington Piecemaker Quilt Guild and was a council member of ND State Quilt Council. She was involved with Dollars for Scholars and Relay for Life. Janet also loved gardening.
Janet is survived by her husband, Rod Higgins, Carrington, ND; three children, Jared Higgins, Mandan, ND, Drew Higgins and Derek Higgins, both of Minot, ND; her mother, Lea Dell, Carrington, ND; two brothers, Jim Dell, Houston, TX, Larry Dell, Mapleton, ND; two sisters, Peggy Dell and Pat Dell, both of Moorhead, MN; father-in-law, Ken Higgins, Brookings, SD, two brother-in- laws, Paul Higgins and Jeremy (Amy) Higgins, both of Stevens Point, WI; and one sister –in-law, Suzanne (Rick) Spear, Puxico, MO.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Dell; her grandparents; mother-in-law, Winifred Higgins.
