Melvin Boyer

Melvin D. “Mel” Boyer, age 78, of New Rockford, ND, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at his home in New Rockford under the care of Presentation Hospice of Carrington, ND.

Melvin Darrell Boyer was born October 3, 1930, the son of Harold and Anna (Johnson) Boyer at Brantford, ND. He graduated from New Rockford High School. Mel served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, December 14, 1950 to September 28, 1954.

On March 27, 1957, Mel was united in marriage to Helen M. Kennedy at San Youcidro, CA. They lived in San Diego, CA, until 1962, when they moved to New Rockford, ND. Mel was employed by BR Chevrolet and retired after over thirty years as a shop mechanic. Helen Boyer died on September 6, 1997.

Melvin’s hobbies were hunting, fishing and spending time with his grand-children.

He is survived by four sons, Mike (Marnie) Boyer, Moses Lake, WA; Darrell (Patty) Boyer, Benton City, MO; Jerry (Vicky) Boyer, Williston, ND; Mark (Corrina Pierce) Boyer, New Rockford, ND; one daughter, Margo Boyer, Carrington, ND; nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Ben, Cassidy, Caitlin, Paige, Sean, Skyler, Shae, Sophie; one great-grandchild, Emma.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, Clair and Harold, and one sister, Patricia Hess.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presentation Hospice of Carrington, ND.

 


Funeral Service: United Methodist Church, New Rockford, ND

Date and Time: Friday, May 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM

Interment: Grace City Cemetery, Grace City, ND (at a later date)
