Gerard "Ardie" Allmaras

Gerard “Ardie” Allmaras died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Gerard Henry Allmaras, known as Ardie, was born August 23, 1923, at New Rockford, the 2nd of identical twins.  He was the son of A.F. and Katherine (Jannsen) Allmaras.  He grew up on the family farm in Munster Township, Eddy County.

Upon graduation from New Rockford High School, Gerard enlisted into the US Army during WWII and was stationed in the Pacific.  At the end of the war he was Honorably discharged.

Gerard was united in marriage to Ramona Coenen on November 26, 1951, in New Rockford.

Ardie worked at Rockford “Pure” Oil, driving the bulk fuel truck for 20+ years.  In 1968, he moved his family to the “Allmaras Ranch”.  In 1988, Gerard and Ramona retired and moved to New Rockford. However, Ardie continued to ranch and hunt, and also fish at his lake place at Van Hook, ND, until the ripe age of 90.

He was a life-time member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.  He was also member of the VFW and American Legion for 70 years.

Some of Ardie’s fondest memories were of when he played, coached, and umped baseball.  Those players were all special to him throughout his whole life.

Gerard is survived by three sons, Daniel, Golden Valley, MN, Russell “Dewey” and David (Melony), both New Rockford; two daughters Shelly Allmaras (Brian Schubloom), Minneapolis, MN, Geri Ann Allmaras Willer (Lon Willer), Sidney, MT; 5 grandchildren: Michael (Tracy) Allmaras, Wyatt Allmaras, Cobey Allmaras,  Peter  Schubloom, Hannah Schubloom; one great-grandchild Asher Allmaras.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ramona, on Dec. 24, 2013; son Dennis, on Oct 26, 1987; brothers John “Huntz” and Jerome “Omie”; and his sister Margaret.

Ardie’s family would like to express great appreciation for all those who cared for him in his final years.

Message: Fond memories or when your Uncle Russell and I were able to come to New Rockford and hunt with "The Allmars", your Mom, Dad and the crew left a lasting impression.

I was fortunate to have a chance to visit your Dad, when Russ and I stopped to visit your Mom.  We had a chance to relive the entire outing.

Cherish those great memories, I know I will!

Thinking of you guys during these difficult times.

Message: I just received this notice moments ago. I did meet Ardie at the Roundup relatives a time or two, especially at Aunt Zita's funeral. I have an old photo of Ardie, Omie, and my Mom (Mary Raths) many years ago, back when they were all much younger of course. My mom is 96 now.
