Bernard Geier

Bernard Geier passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 14, 2010 at the home of Larry and Marcy Krueger, near Bismarck, ND, where he had been receiving hospice care.

Bernard came into the world May 8, 1922 in Kidder County, North Dakota.  He was the seventh of ten children born to Carl and Henrietta Geier.  He had five brothers: David, Charlie, William, Calvin, and John, and four sisters: Renada, Sally, Hulda, and Rosella.  Bernard was raised on the family farm in Rexine Township, Kidder County and graduated from Heaton High School in 1939.  Shortly after this time, he and his brother William left to find their fortunes in California, but returned with the outbreak of World War II.  Some time earlier, Bernard had met Selma Herman.  Selma was living with her sister Amanda Hinger who, with her husband, resided at the home of Carl Geier's good friend, August Hinger.  This is how they came to know each other and there was a mutual attraction which continued even though circumstances separated them for a time.  They renewed their acquaintance after some time and were married April 13, 1945.  From that union were born three children: Galen in 1946, Durwood in 1947, and lastly a girl, Marcy in 1948.  In 1950, the Bernard Geier family moved to the August Hinger farm in Petersville Township, Kidder County.  There he farmed and his children grew and there was much joy and happiness at all times and seasons.  Bernard retired from farming in 1988.  He and Selma purchased a home in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1988 and had many happy years there living near their children.  He never left our mother's side until her passing in 2002.

Bernard Geier was a man of strength, integrity, and honesty.  He instilled these qualities in his children with his life and his deeds.  Bernard was well known in the community where he lived as someone who could be depended upon in time of need.  He served both God and man thus fulfilling the Lords commandments.  But Bernard knew how to enjoy life which is also good.  He loved being with his family at all occasions.  He was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather.  The world was made a better place by him.

Bernard Geier is survived by three children, Galen (Cher) Geier, Durwood (Sandy) Geier, and Marcy (Larry) Krueger, all of Bismarck; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren; and his sister Hulda Robinson of Aiea, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and three sisters.
