HAPA WASTE WIN

Sylvia Brownshield “HAPA WASTE WIN” (Third Good Woman),   87, of Ft. Totten, ND, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.

Sylvia Adams was born July 16, 1927, in Fort Totten, the daughter of John Guy Adams and Emma (Woods) Adams.

She was employed at Four Winds High School as a cook, and was a switchboard operator for the Spirit Lake Tribe, she retired due to illness.

Sylvia centered her life through prayer. Always helping others, whether it was through Dakota culture or through Christianity. She strongly supported our Dakota ways of life, as well as her Christian beliefs. She was a very compassionate and loving woman. She sang, along with her sisters, Dakota Hymns for families and held prayer meetings to encourage them through their difficult times. In her later years, she spent most of her time crocheting pillows and various other things for giveaways, and most of all she loved to play solitaire.

Sylvia was united in marriage to Raymond C. Brownshield in 1947.  She had seven children.

Sylvia is survived by her son Edward (Khati) Brownshield; daughter Lorna (Greg) Hoffner; adopted sister Catherine Howard; sisters-in-law Evelyn Ross and Doreen “Ma Cakes” McKay; good friend Eric Dubois; her grandchildren Trina Brownshield, Kevin Dauphinais, Clarise Brownshield, Michael Pacheco Jr., Dion Pacheco and Sheldon Jones Jr.; her 25 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and cousins Herminia McKay and Mildred Chase.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond (1952), her parents John and Emma Adams, children Gloria, Lavonne, Karlene, Corine, Darlene, and adopted daughter Sharon Lambert, sisters Florence Joshua Sr., Gladys Peltier, Priscilla Cavanaugh, brothers Clarence Adams, Pat Adams, Jerome Adams, Ray Adams, and adopted brother Floyd “Easter Boy” McKay.

We are very sorry if we forgot anyone, Grandma Goose had many relatives.
