Carmen Nyhusmoen

Carmen Nyhusmoen, 87, died on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Bethany Retirement Home in Fargo, ND.

Lucille Carmen Odegaard was born August 1, 1924 to Syver and Anna (Kristiansen) Odegaard at home in Sheyenne, ND.  She grew up in Sheyenne and graduated in 1942 from Sheyenne High School.  She married Ole Nyhusmoen, Jr. at the First Lutheran Parsonage, Sheyenne, on August 15, 1942.

Carmen was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years, and she was active in the Ladies Aid and served as President.  She was an advisor to the Lutheran Children of the Reformation.

The Nyhusmoens were farmers in the Sheyenne community.  Carmen moved to The Waterford in Fargo, ND after the death of her husband, Ole, in 2001.  She moved to Bethany Retirement Home in June of 2011.

Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Ole, her parents, sister Klara Holritz, brothers Ole, Arnold and Rolf Odegaard.

She is survived by her children, Rev. Ken (Susan Bohrer) Nyhusmoen, Ada, MN, Sandra (Gene) Amundson, Rothsay, MN, James (Lisa Evenson) Minnetrista, MN; and her grandchildren  she adored, Karl (Cindy) Nyhusmoen, Bemidji, MN, Andrea (Greg Sarles) Nyhusmoen, St. Louis Park, MN, Philip (Abbey) Nyhusmoen, Walker, MN, Mike (Alissa) Amundson, Eau Claire, MN, Dan Amundson, Rothsay, MN, Sarah (Jesse) Buck, Osceola, WI. Katie Nyhusmoen, Minnetrista, MN and Anna Nyhusmoen, Minnetrista, MN. She also is survived by her seven great grandchildren she was so proud of, Dylan Amundson, Aleah Amundson, Morgan Nyhusmoen, Reagan Nyhusmoen, Jude Nyhusmoen, Ella Nyhusmoen Sarles and newborn Keegan Buck.

        

Carmen’s family is so grateful for the loving care and friendship shown to her by the staff at The Waterford and Bethany Retirement Home on University.  Her last days were made especially meaningful by the tender care she received from the Bethany staff.

The family is blessed by her memories and will always recall what fun it was to guess “What’s Grandma Having for Dinner?”

Message: Oh, so sorry to hear Carmen pass on, I use to clean her room of an on I so, enjoy her company an we laugh about things she was such a wonderful person to visit with her whenever I clean her room at WaterFord. Me an her had alot fun together talking an laughing, I new how to speak German.She was so pround of her children an grandchildren. I wouldnt be able make it to her funeral wish I could but, me doing Daycare not able to attend. I think I met her son, who is a Pastor. She was a fun Lady Love her sense humor. Lord Bless her family on days to come with comfort an peace on days of missing her.

As a caregiver at the WaterFord I got to know Carmen quite well and enjoyed our visits as well as the Norwegian stuff we would talk about since we both were norgwegian! I also managed to go visit her at Bethany when she had to move there as well.
