Doug Clifton

Douglas A. Clifton, age 64, of Sheyenne, ND, died Friday, January 15, 2016, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

He was born February 13, 1951, at Devils Lake, ND, the son of J. Arnold and Phyllis (Stenberg) Clifton. He graduated from Oberon High School in 1969.

Doug proudly served his country from February 1971 to January 1973 in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, and then in Germany until his Honorable Discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medaland earned the Expert M16 Award.

On December 11, 1973, he was united in marriage to Patricia Hoffman at First Lutheran Church in Sheyenne. They made their home in Sheyenne where they raised their children.

Doug enjoyed playing basketball and also worked for various farmers in the Oberon area during his school years. He enjoyed playing softball, team roping, hunting, fishing, darts, pool and trap shooting. He worked for a number of years at L-B Ranch in Sheyenne, and then was employed by Equity Co-op Elevator in Sheyenne, where he was a dedicated employee for 33 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, the American Legion, and the Sheyenne Wildlife Club.

He is survived his wife Patti, son Jared, Sheyenne, and daughter Jena (Rance) Brown, Sun Prairie, WI; four brothers, Larry Clifton, Lisbon, Robert (Peg) Clifton, Carrington, Joe (Kelli) Clifton, Minnewaukan, and David (Darlene) Clifton, Grand Forks; four sisters, Donna (Ronnie) Smith, Maddock, Carolyn Harwood, Maddock, Debra (Roy) Fairchild, Grand Forks, and Cindy (Ken) Simon, Fargo; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law David (Connie) Hoffman, Fargo; and sister-in-law Bev Clifton, New Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his son Brett, his parents, his mother-in-law Beatrice Hanson, one brother Gerald, and sister-in-law Faye Hoffman.

Message: We lived in Devils Lake and Uncle Arnold and Phyllis, would come and visit  with  all the older 2 daughters and a number of boys.  We had a lot of fun with all of the Clifton clan, they were fun to be with and they visited often.  They always had a picnic going when we would bring Grandma & Grandpa Clifton to the farm.
