Ruth Coenen

Ruth Coenen, age 76, of Tolna, ND, died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Ruthie Caroline Crommett was born July 25, 1940, in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of Benjamin and Alice (Swenson) Crommett. She attended school in Warwick, ND, and graduated from Warwick High School in 1958.

Ruth met Jackie Coenen, and they were married on May 23, 1959, at Warwick Lutheran Church.  Together, they had 3 children and raised them at their home in Warwick. Ruth worked in the local school system as a cook, a paraprofessional, and as a bus driver for many years. Ruth and Jackie also owned a farm just outside of town, and Ruth would help to raise the crops, cattle, horses, and sheep.

Ruth was a member of American Lutheran Church, and the Gardening Club. She enjoyed golfing, quilting, gardening, and playing games on her “puter”. Ruth touched the lives of so many with her kind, non-judgmental, and loving soul. She spent a lot of her time with family, playing a huge role in their lives.

She is survived by her husband of almost 58 years, Jackie Coenen; her children, Rory (Tami) Coenen, Crary, ND, Robert (Lynda) Coenen, Warwick, and Ronda Coenen, Tolna; her grandchildren: Destiney (Jeremy) Sandvik, Devils Lake, Sarah Coenen, Crary, Samantha (Tyler) Bilbruck, Hot Springs, SD, Ian Coenen, Brinsmade, ND, Tanner Coenen, Valley City, ND, Mikayla Coenen, Warwick, Cassidy Coenen, Warwick, Ryan Waldo, Tolna, Amanda (Todd) Klingenberg, Cando, ND, Ashley Comer, Air Force;  her 12 great-grandchildren: Paige, Wyatt, Brody, and Griffin Sandvik; Brett Longie, Payton Coenen, Colton Vigil, Sienna Coenen, and Zayden, Haley, Gavin, and Owen Klingenberg. Also her siblings, Florence (Gary) Winfield, Counce, TN; Charles (Diane) Crommett, Callaway, MN; and Rodney Crommett, Michigan, ND;

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ray Crommett, and an infant daughter, JoAnn Coenen.

 

VISITATION:

Held at the church, one hour prior to her service.

So sorry for your loss. Ruthie was my sister's (Judy Gilbertson Finch) best friend while we lived in the Depot in Warwick. I remember Ruthie, and going over to the Crommett house and playing in Ben's old combine in the yard with Florence and Rodney.

Ruthie such a dear sweet lady. Judy and Ruthie continued their friendship for a lifetime....Not many are blessed with forever friends, Ruthie had that gift, to just make you feel warm and welcome. We will hold you all in our prayers.
