Edith Haukom

     Edith Haukom, age 100, of New Rockford, ND, formerly of Oberon and Sheyenne, ND, died Sunday, January 15, 2012, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.

     Edith was born in Sheyenne, ND on March 25, 1911, the daughter of Jens Peder and Ingeborg (Hansen) Nielson, Danish immigrants who had settled in the Sheyenne, ND area in 1905.  She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a young person.  She graduated from Sheyenne High School.

       She was united in marriage to Bernard Haukom in the late 1920’s, and they farmed in the Sheyenne area until his death in 1967.  Edith began working at City Hospital in New Rockford,  and then worked with Benson County Homemakers for many years.  She entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in June of 2007.

       Edith is survived by four nieces, two nephews, and their families, also long time good friend, John Sookov of Sheyenne, ND.

     She is preceded in death by her husband, and three sisters, Doris Nielson, Myrtle Thompson and Rose Ulness Colligan, and one brother, Paul Nielson.

Message: Edith was a dear neighbor to our family. She made the cake for my wedding and she was very good at this! She was dearly loved by all of our family and neighbors. She was in my mother's home makers club and she enjoyed her friendship, too. My sympathy goes to all the family at this time!
