Raymond D. Engberg

Raymond Engberg, age 72, of Carrington, ND, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Sanford Health of Fargo, ND.

Raymond Darwin Engberg, was born April 8, 1944, in Carrington, the son of Fredrick and Marie (Driessen) Engberg. He grew up in Carrington and attended school, graduating in 1962. After graduation Ray joined the US Navy in February 1963, serving 4 years and being honorably discharged in February 1967.

In his younger years Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing. While later on in life his interests shifted from hunting to wildlife photography, especially birds. He loved spending time in his vegetable garden, and doing carpentry. Ray had a love of bird watching; his favorite birds were Hummingbirds and Cardinals. He also enjoyed cooking and baking. One of his favorite things to make was donuts. Rays all-time favorite thing to do was crossword puzzles.

Ray was a member of John Raymond O’Hara Post #25 American Legion in Carrington for over 40 years.

Ray is survived by his son Tom (Jodi) Bennett, Keizer, OR; his daughter Cari (David) Dukes, Charleston, SC; 5 grandchildren Ashley Bennett, Brittany Bennett, Chelsea Bennett, Caitlyn Rouse, and  Cierra Rouse; four great grandchildren Taylor Darty, Brantley Myers, Camron O’Neil, and Christian O’Neal; two brothers Fred Engberg, Carrington, and  Gary Engberg, Hankinson; three sisters Janet (James) Jones, Greenfield, MO, Ardell (Rick) Oliver, and Barb Muniz both of Dardenne Prairie, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents.

BURIAL: Carrington, ND on Saturday, June 4th.

Message: Ray was in my class of 62. Remember he sat behind me a couple of classes. He was always nice to me. I remember all of his family as couple older then me and couple younger. I worked with his brother Gary at show hall years ago. I've been out in Spokane since 1969. Jill
