Evelyn Boschee

Evelyn Boschee, 86, of Devils Lake, formerly of McHenry, ND, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND with her family at her side, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.

Evelyn Fiebiger was born March 18, 1924, on the Herbert Chamberlain farm near Cooperstown, ND, the daughter of Adolph Sr. and Mary Anne (Heinz) Fiebiger. Evelyn attended country school near Cooperstown. On October 18, 1945, Evelyn was united in marriage to William Boschee at Cooperstown, ND. They farmed in Revere, ND, Binford, ND, Cooperstown, ND, McHenry, ND and finally retiring in Devils Lake, ND. William died on December 12, 1994.

As a young girl, and after marriage to William, Evelyn was involved in the many chores of life on the farm. She always had a huge garden, of which fresh vegetables were enjoyed during the growing season and she canned everything she could to be used for meals during the winter months. Wild plums, chokecherries and raspberries were picked to make jams and jellies, and juneberries provided the family with sauce and pies.

Evelyn was not one to sit idle, after retiring from farm life she became site manager at the McHenry Senior Center, and janitor at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McHenry, ND.
She also worked with the Green Thumb program as teacher’s aide at McHenry Public School, McHenry Café, and planting flowers at the McHenry park and other areas around town. She also did housework for the elderly in the McHenry area. She sold bedding plants and flowers for Gronass Floral Shop of McVille from her home and also Watkins products. In 1995, she began working as a librarian assistant for Carnegie Library, Devils Lake, ND, a job she greatly enjoyed and continued to work there until she was 80 years old. Evelyn enjoyed watching birds outside of her kitchen window and made sure they also had plenty to eat. A great joy and satisfaction was to bake many delicious goodies to share with family and friends. She spent many, many hours embroidering beautiful items for family.
Evelyn enjoyed listening to polka party on the radio. Her memory was kept sharp by doing crossword puzzles and faithfully watching “Wheel of Fortune and other game shows and the news on TV.

Most of all her church, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her.

She was a member of the altar society in St. Peter & Paul, St. Lawrence, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Churches.
