Tannes Clifford Gedrose

 

Tannes Clifford Gedrose, “Cliff” passed away on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. 

 

Cliff was born on April 20, 1931 in Fairville Township, Wells County, ND to Tannes and Hanna (Gudmestad) Gedrose. He attended school at Fairville #4 rural schoolhouse.  He lived on the family farm northeast of Cathay, ND where he worked for various area farmers.  He moved to Fargo and worked at a service station until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1953.  He was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to the family farm to help continue farming with his dad and his brother Elmer. 

 

He met Marilyn Tweten Krueger and they married on July 26, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington, ND. They made their home on a farm near Cathay, ND where they raised their five children until he retired in 1997.  In 2001, they moved to New Rockford, ND.

 

Cliff drove school bus for the Cathay School and sporting events for many years.  He most enjoyed spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed horseback riding, water skiing (and even water skied at age 65), dancing where he and Marilyn won many dance competitions, bingo, playing cards and having coffee with his friends.

 

He was active in the National Farmers Organization and Central North Dakota Steam Threshers. He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church until it closed, the American Legion, Eagles Club, New Rockford Ambulance and First Lutheran Church. He had been on the board of the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd and was currently serving on the board of Community Credit Union.

 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn, children: Pam Helm, Mandan, ND, Colin (Lynette) Detroit Lakes, MN, Janine (Greg) Anderson, New Rockford, Stephanie (Shane) Hodenfield, Ray, ND, Sara (Jobey) Lichtblau, West Fargo, ND.  Ten grandchildren, Shannon (Ashley) Obe, Tanner Helm (fiancé Johanna Heck), Makenzie, Hanna and Austin Gedrose, Tyler Anderson, Trista (Josh) Langley, Keenan, Haley and Garrett Hodenfield.  Three great-grandchildren, Kayden Obe, Gabriella Helm and Lincoln Langley. 

 

He is also survived by his sisters Elsie (Anker) Robertson, Brooklyn, NY, and Doris Ann (Gerald) Wolsky, Carrington, ND, sisters-in-law Lillian Gedrose, New Rockford, Delores Gedrose, Aloha, Oregon, Claire (Chet) Birkeland, Billings, MT, Vonnie (Chuck) Fischer, West Fargo, ND, Debbie (Miles) Kruse, Carrington, ND, and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Tumina Melhus, Camilla Gedrose,  Helen Lilleheim, brothers Elmer, Oscar and Reuben, brothers-in-law Wayne “Tuff” Partlow, Jack Lilleheim, and John Melhus.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to a charity of your choosing.

Message: I just recently learned the Cliff had passed away. He held a very special place in our family. I have many fond memories, from the time they lived at the old  house with the big barn to when my dad help build the new place near us. I recall when they put in the basement and then built the house. I loved Cliff's joy for life and smile. He always seemed so cheerful. My prayers are for his family as they grieve is passing. He was a special man and I am grateful to have known him.
