Bernice Hanson

Bernice” Ber” Hanson, age 89, of Devils Lake, formerly of Oberon, ND, died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, ND.

Bernice Adel Hanson was born on February 1, 1926, at Vang, ND, the daughter of Edwin and Inga (Olson) Peterson.  She was the youngest of five daughters with three younger brothers.  Ber was baptized and confirmed in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan.  She graduated from Minnewaukan High School.

Bernice married Donald Goff of Lidgerwood, ND, in her parent's home on February 1, 1947, at Minnewaukan.  She traveled with Don during his several military assignments and later worked at Kraft Foods in Illinois.  They later divorced.

Bernice was united in marriage to Ever Hanson of Oberon, ND, in June of 1977.  Ever and Ber had been high school friends during the WWII era.  They lived on the farm west of Oberon until moving to Heartland Care in Devils Lake in 2013.

Ber is lovingly remembered as the author and director of many Christmas plays that were performed on the Hanson family farm by a happy cast of grandchildren.  The Sheyenne River, Irish Mike's, bonfires, Bingo, fireworks,  funny stories, Halloween, motorcycles, three-wheelers, cookies, doughnuts, butter, lutefisk and lefse, are but a few of the elements Gramma Ber used to create magical memories.

Ber is survived by her children: Ron (Anne) Goff, of Springfield, IL; Elaine (Keith) Parrish, St. Joseph, IL; Andrea Andrews, Albany, WI.  Her stepchildren: Wesley of Lake Okoboji, IA; Diane (James) Brines, Dickinson, ND; Wendy (Terry) Church, Devils Lake, ND;  Alan “Tiger” Hanson, Oberon, ND; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ever, her parents, her sisters Helen, Eileen, Lela, Marge; brothers Ralph, Harry and Gordy.  Son-in-law John Andrews; grandson Jeffrey Little; stepson Oley Hanson.  Brothers-in-law Virgil and Olger; sisters-in-law, Thelma Finley, Hazel Carlson, Lilian Hanson, Verna Johnson and Nina Gray.
