Marie Haster

Marie Haster, age 98, of New Rockford, ND, formerly Carrington, ND, passed away on September 15, 2016, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. Marie Margaret Linhart was born on January 5, 1918, in Sykeston, ND. She was the third of nine children born to Frank and Helen (Hammes) Linhart. Marie attended St. Elizabeth’s School in Sykeston, St. Bonaventure School in Minneapolis, MN, and Sykeston High School. She continued to live on her parent’s farm with her siblings until 1944, when she moved to Minneapolis. There she met her future husband, Herman Haster. They married June 24, 1946. Following their marriage, Marie and Herman worked on an estate in Illinois, and then owned and operated motels in Minnesota for 30 years. They retired to Carrington, in 1973. Her husband died in 1981, and Marie continued to live in Carrington where she was well known as a fine seamstress and alterations person. In 2012, she moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Marie is survived by her sister Rosella Richter, Sykeston, two brothers Francis Linhart, Grapevine, TX, Eugene (Carolyn) Linhart, Simi Valley, CA; a brother-in-law Dennis Heley, Moorhead, MN; as well as many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers William, Clarence, Louis, and Leo, and a sister Marjorie Heley.
