LaVerne L. Jensen

LaVerne L. Jensen, age 63, of New Rockford, ND, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in his home of natural causes.

LaVerne Lee Jensen was born March 9, 1952, in New Rockford, the son of Vernon and Lorraine (Ferguson) Jensen.  He attended school in New Rockford until his car accident in 1968, in which he suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury.  He attended special training in Minot 3 years, Grand Forks ½ year, Sioux City, Iowa ½ year, Fargo 4 years, and Valley City 2 years.  LaVerne returned to New Rockford and lived in an apartment above the old Fire Hall, later moving to the Metroplex Apartments.

LaVerne delivered the GRIT newspaper for years.  He worked for Hagen’s Super Value, and did numerous small jobs for people around town.  He liked to keep the “Uptown” district looking nice for when people came to town so they could see what a nice town we have.  He shoveled several sidewalks and mowed many lawns around town.  LaVerne liked to keep busy, and some folks called him the “Town Greeter” as he enjoyed visiting and getting to know people.  He had attended Camp Grassick, Dawson, ND, for many years and received many different awards from there.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and a former longtime member of the Eagles Club, both of New Rockford.  He enjoyed dancing and singing, and playing Bingo.  He also played cards, and shook dice with the guys uptown.

LaVerne is survived by his brother Leland and his sister Beverly Lesmeister, both of New Rockford; by James and Marlys Ferguson, New Rockford, and Ethel Jensen of Carrington, his uncle and aunts; and by several cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Larry, grandparents Alfred and Gilma Jensen, Kenneth and Violet Ferguson, and by his great-grandparents William and Ada Roach.

Message: To the Family of LaVerne Jensen...

LaVerne attended Elks Camp Grassick during the summer for more than 42 years. He was always one of the staff's favorites and would often sing his made up songs for the talent show. He would also be busy raking, watering bushes, sweeping sidewalks and picking weeds while he was out here just to keep everything looking nice. He was quite the dancer when we had our camp dances and was quite the ladies man.... He will truly be missed by his "Grassick" Family.... My/Our Sincerest Sympathy..... Dan Mimnaugh, Director, Elks Camp Grassick and Grassick Staff
