Vernon Johnson

Vernon D. Johnson, 84, Fargo, ND, formerly of New Rockford, ND, died on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN.

 

Vernon Donald Johnson was born on July 25, 1931, in Urness Township, Douglas County, Minnesota.  He was one of seven children born to John and Marion Johnson.  During his childhood, he went to school and worked on the family farm.  From 1953-1955, he was a Private 1st Class in the US Army in Korea.  Later he worked as a draftsman and carpenter for the lumberyard in Carrington, ND.  On November 25, 1964, he married Clara Mae Beatty in New Rockford.  The family moved to Parshall, ND, for two years where he managed the lumberyard.  They moved back to New Rockford where he continued in the lumber business with Independent Lumber, remodeling and building many homes.  Clara Mae Johnson died June 9, 2002.

 

Vernon was an active member of the Masons, Eagle Club, American Legion, Shriners and VFW.  He enjoyed golfing and was officially certified as achieving a hole-in-one in August 1990.

 

Vernon moved to Fargo in 2007, where he enjoyed participating in senior volunteer programs and playing cards with friends.  In 2012, he entered a nursing home. 

 

He is survived by his daughter, Cyndi Johnson, of Fargo, son Morgan (Lynnae), of Martin, ND, grandsons Nick and Ryan Golz; and siblings: Audrey Hermanson, of Thief River Falls, MN, Laurel Johnson, of Evansville, MN, Omar Johnson, of Marshall, MN and Douglas (Elaine) Johnson, of Sauk Centre, MN.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Mayo, sister Donna, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Private Services for the family will be held at West Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center, West Fargo, ND

Public Graveside Service, with Military Honors:
