Keith Peterson

Keith Allan Peterson, 51, of Robinson, ND, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, ND, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. His unwavering strength and spirit throughout his battle were a true inspiration for those who loved him.

Keith Peterson was born on October 31, 1960, the son of Raymond and Lois (Husby) Peterson in Ellendale, ND. The family moved to Grand Forks and later to Carrington, where Keith was raised and attended school. He graduated from Carrington High School in 1979. He attended Bismarck State College and received his electrical lineman degree in 1981.

On September 18, 1982, Keith married his high school sweetheart, Julie Gussiaas, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Carrington. They worked in Colorado and Utah for a time before making their home in Robinson in 1984. Keith worked as a lineman for Northern Plains Electric for 28 years. He remained dedicated to his profession, continuing to work until the week before his death, and mentored many young linemen.

Keith loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking and football, and remained a lifelong Vikings fan. He served his community as a volunteer for the Robinson Fire Department and the Robinson Lions Club. He was a former Wildlife Club member and former Mayor of Robinson. More than anything, Keith cherished his family and friends dearly. He was very proud of his three children and enjoyed every moment they spent together. He also enjoyed driving the countryside with his good friend Bruce Knudson and other days with his chocolate lab and hunting partner, Tess.

Keith is survived by his wife, Julie; a son Dustin of Gackle, ND; a son Darin of Steele and special friend Cally Musland of Jamestown, ND; a daughter, Danielle and special friend Mike Wachter of Steele; his parents, Raymond and Lois Peterson of Carrington; a sister, Cheryl Peterson of Carrington; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Luverne and Beatrice Gussiaas of Carrington; many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Keith will be truly missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and community.

Message: May all the memories that you have of the strong & willing to help anyone person, Keith was guide you to peace in the thought that he has no more pain and that if we could all be the person he was--we would have just as many friends as he does. My latest memory was of Keith helping put up the Christmas lights in Robinson, just as he has done in the past many many years for everyone to enjoy, he was doing this just a few days before he went to the hospital. I knew he hadn't been feeling well from talking to Julie but there he was doing something for everyone that one last time, checking all the lights before they were put up in the bucket truck by his helper (not sure). Thank you Keith for being an AWESOME neighbor to us since we moved to town in 2000, thanks for being a friend & give Bailey a pet for us. Rest in Peace & you will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!!

Message: Within the two years of Keith's battle with cancer he became known to me as one of the strongest, most courageous man ever. Chemo treatment is known for it's side effects and although Keith experienced some of them, never did he let on that he was suffering. Julie and Keith gave me inspiration and to keep trucking through the hard times. I pray Keith went in peace and that his family is consoled by God and their loved ones.

Message: TO: Nellie and Mike
Nellie, Dick and I were very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. We know how much he meant to you and your family. With the miles between us we were not able to know him well, but he seemed like a very kind man. It will be difficult for you two in the future, but just know that your dad will be looking down on you as your life continues. Please know that Dick and I are here for both of you. Your dads strength was an inspiration to everyone in your community. We will pray for you and your family and will grieve with you. Hold tight the good memories of your dad and the time spent together as a family.

TO: Julie, Dustin, and Darin
Dick and I wanted to express our sympathy for the loss of Keith, your husband and dad. In the short time we had with Keith, we felt the love he had for his family and community. Dick said you could feel the love and support shown to Keith at his benefit. Dick was glad he got to spend time with Keith at the football game in October. Please know that you will be in our prayers as your family grieves the loss of Keith.

Message: Julie, Pete, Darin & Nellie,
Keith was the best brother-in-law & uncle we could of had. In all the years we have known Keith - I never did see him mad or upset. The kids loved to go visit - he would always throw around a football or basketball with them. He took them for rides on the 4-wheeler or in the old red pickup - oh how they just loved that - they always seemed to have a a story when they got back. I don't know who was worse Keith or the kids roughing around - I know Julie would yell & always say stop it & you would just sit over there & have that smirk you always had on your face & laugh.
In the 2 years you were battling cancer - I never once heard you complain - you were an inspiration to us all.
When I look at your kids I will remember alittle abit of you in each of them - Pete for your quiet demeanor - Darin for your compassionate side, & Nellie for your loyality & sincerity. They are different but are a mix of all of your great traits you had. You were so proud of them all & rightfully so - you did good.
I am so thankful my sister found you in her life - you brought so much joy into our family and what Julie & you had was so special.
God seems to take all the good ones & this time he has one of the best. Rest in peace our beloved Keith. We love you & will forever miss you. Never to be forgotten!
