Laura McDonald

Laura McDonald, age 94, of Carrington, ND, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND.

Laura Lucille Martin was born on October 23, 1917, at Kensal, ND, to Elmer Bliss Martin and Mary Lucetta (Wright) Martin. She married Lyman Page at Carrington, ND, on October 9, 1936. They later divorced. She married L. H. McDonald on October 31, 1962. They lived in Carrington for all their years together. He passed away on July 18, 1984.

Laura lived many years on a farm near Carrington, raising her family. She moved to town and worked many years at various cafes and later enjoyed her work as store clerk at Gambles and True Value Hardware stores. After her retirement, she continued to live in Carrington, and later lived with her daughters, Gayle at New Rockford, ND, and Lucille at Dilworth, MN

She was a very loving, caring mother. Time spent with her children were her main concern. Phone calls, letters, and visits were the highlight of her day. She loved playing cards, games, and playing the harmonica. Laura loved music. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Moorhead, MN.

Laura is survived by four daughters, Lona Bergh, Jamestown, ND, Darlene Reisnour, Carrington, Gayle (Jim) Cleveland, New Rockford, and Lucille (Larry) Thompson, Dilworth; two sons, Myron (Dee) Page, Garrison, ND, and Jerome (Barb) Page, Carrington; 22 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; and 3 step great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mac; her parents; her brothers, Earl, Nathan, Chester, and Richard; her sisters Ada, Betty, and Margaret; 4 infant children, Marlys, Larry and twins; one grandson, Kelly Page; 2 sons-in-law, Marvin Bergh and George Reisnour; and 2 infant great grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Research or Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, Carrington.
