Walter "Butch" Lesmeister

Walter “Butch” Lesmeister, age  67, of New Rockford, ND, died Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his home under the care of his loving family and Hospice.

 

Walter Ronald Lesmeister was born February 7, 1949, at City Hospital in New Rockford, the son of Walter and Mary (Bachmeier) Lesmeister. He grew up and went to school in New Rockford, attending St. James Academy and later New Rockford High School, graduating in 1969. He then went on to Minot State College, before getting drafted into the US Army in 1970, and served in the Vietnam War during 1970-71, being honorably discharged in 1972.

 

Butch was united in marriage to Marilyn Roaldson in 1973, and they had one son Brock. They later divorced.

 

In November of 1972, Butch started working for the City of New Rockford and later became the City Superintendent. He retired in April of 2014, after 41 years of service.

 

Butch was united in marriage to Sharon Miller in 1984, at St. John’s Catholic Church in New Rockford. They made their home in New Rockford and raised their son Rob there.

 

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, and also belonged to the American Legion, and Eagles, all of New Rockford.   Butch’s hobbies included fishing, ice fishing, hunting, camping and golfing. He loved watching sports and had played all sports in high school. He especially enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and loved the UND Hockey program. He spent countless enjoyable hours tending to his garden and lawn.

 

Butch is survived by his wife Sharon, New Rockford; stepson Rob (Kari) Miller, West Fargo; son Brock (Rani) Nicholson, Loveland, CO; 3 grandchildren: Brooklynn Miller, Zachary Miller, and Pazli Rendon; his sister Vicki (Merrell) Hoveskeland, Custer, SD; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Lesmeister; grandparents Mike and Pauline Bachmeier, Joe and Mary Lesmeister; his two twin great-nieces Kaitlynn and Kailey; and one brother-in-law Danny Gross.

 

VIGIL SERVICE AND ROSARY

Monday (July 11th) at 7:00PM, with Rosary at 7:30PM, all in St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford

Message: So sorry to hear of Butch's passing!  Though we were several years and a school apart, I always counted him as a "neighborhood" friend!  We hung with some of the same people, and of course, you always wanted to stay friendly with the toughest guy on our end of town!  I regret not getting back to NR more often, and keeping some of those old acquaintances and friendships alive....the more time that has passed, the more meaningful those friendships have become...............it's painfully sad.

     My condolences and God's blessing to his family.........I hope he didn't suffer....

Message: Sorry to hear about Butch. I remember coming up there for christmas and the adults would go to the bowling alley. Us kids had a blast when we came to you guys. Vicki you were cheerleader, I remember seeing you in your outfit. I wanted to be a cheerleader . we all would dance to harper valley p.t.a. and sing.
