Lois M.  Littlewind (Kampeska Duta Win / Red Shell Woman), age 58, of Fort Totten, ND, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at her home. She went into the Spirit World surrounded by her loving Tiyspaye.

 

Lois Marie Peltier was born on September 20, 1955, in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of John and Gladys Peltier.  She was educated at Matterson, SD, Fort Totten, ND, Flandreau, SD, and Maddock, ND.  She was united in marriage to Dallas Littlewind Sr. for 20+ years.

 

She worked as a floor walker at the bingo hall in St. Michael, for many years. She also worked at the Aero-Space Center Jamestown, at Express, Dunseith ND, and McDonalds in Devils Lake, ND.

 

Lois was a loving, caring, generous, and most kind-hearted woman you’ll ever meet. She loved her family dearly. She loved spending time with her sisters, boys, grandchildren, and being at the casino playing slots, pinochle, and Yahtzee.

 

Lois is survived by her husband Dallas Littlewind Sr. of Ft. Totten; children Cary (Justine) Poitra Jr. of Devils Lake, Delwyn (Pam) Littlewind, Jason (Heidi) Littlewind, Dallas (Felicia) Littlewind Jr., all of Ft. Totten, Melissa Poitra of Durham, NC; special granddaughter Brittani Mae Poitra; sisters Florestine Peltier, Andrea Peltier, Edith Peltier, Lorna Hoffner, Patricia “Patti” Cavanaugh,  Debbie Peltier; brothers Solomon (Sharon) Peltier, Richard (Michelle) Peltier, Ivan (Lynette) Lovejoy; other sisters-in-law Joyce Peltier, Kristi Peltier; adopted brothers Kenny Hill, Richard (Lonna) Street, Myron (Sharon) Spottedhorse; godmother Sylvia Brownshield; godsisters Nikki Buckles, Rosita McKay, Rayonne Sherman; godbrother Emery Spottedhorse; godchildren Shannon Peltier, Jan Nadeau; aunts Sylvia Brownshield, Catherine Howard, Mrs. Bernice Peltier, Mrs. Mary Peltier, Eva Dauphinais, Ramona Bull; uncles Fred Peltier, Clifford Peltier; grandchildren Selena, Cary III, Orion, Brittani, Shirley, Destiny, Delwyn II, Nevaeh, Caprial, Gladys, Quentin, Cole, Landon, Jessena “Sugar”, Bobby, Bradyen, Bryson Robertson, Breann Robertson; great grandchildren Hailen and Braxton.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Gladys Peltier; brothers John Jr., Eddie, Larry and Fred Peltier, Michael Joshua, David Lawrence; sister Julia Peltier; son Ernest Delong III; great-grandson Eli James Poitra; uncles Floyd McKay, Gilbert Peltier, Clarence Adams, Stanley Adams, Pat Adams, Jerry Adams, Ray Adams, Joe Peltier,  Francis Peltier (her godfather), Paul Peltier; aunts Priscilla Cavanaugh, Florence Joshua, Olive Cree, Janette McKay, Mary McNamara, Marquet Peltier; grandparents John and Emma “Woods” Adams, Fred and Ceclia “Lenior” Peltier.

 

Special thanks to Altru Hospice nurses Ashley, Maria, Farrah, Peggy; Sundance Singers and all Tiyspaye that were at her bedside.  A very special thanks to Spirit Lake Tribe.
