Michael B. Loe

Michael Birkeland Loe, age 68, of Sheyenne, ND, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at Eventide/Hi-Acres Nursing Home in Jamestown, ND.

Mike was born July 10, 1945 in New Rockford, ND, the son of Lloyd and Emma (Birkeland) Loe. He attended Hillsdale Country School and Warwick Public School, graduating from Sheyenne Public High School in 1963. He attended Mayville State College for one year and joined the Army in April of 1966, served one year in Viet Nam, and was honorably discharged in April of 1968.

On August 17, 1968, Mike was united in marriage to Janice Woodrow at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon, North Dakota. They made their home in Devils Lake where Mike attended Lake Region State College. Mike and Jan moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1969, where Mike attended Parkside University. Their son Steven was born in 1971, and the family moved back to North Dakota in 1975. They lived in Mayville where Mike graduated from Mayville State College in 1976. Mike taught school in several North Dakota cities. He attended UND and received a certification in Special Education. In 1980, their daughter Stephanie was born. Mike was a Program Coordinator for 4th Corporation in the late 80s, serving in New Rockford and Devils Lake. In the early 1990s Mike resumed his semi driving career – a job that got him back out “On the Road Again�!
Nothing made Mike happier than a visit with his granddaughter Madison, his numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and sitting around a camp fire visiting with his fellow campers.

Mike is survived by his wife Janice, Sheyenne, ND; his daughter Stephanie Loe of Sheyenne; his son Steven (Shannon) Loe and only granddaughter Madison Loe, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; his brothers Irvin (Barbara) Loe of McHenry, David (Jeneen) Loe of Washburn; his sisters Laurel Koko of Seattle, WA, Betty Anderson of Selah, WA, Ellen (Fyll) Burthold of Pekin, and Marilyn Stenberg of Lakota; sister-in-law Faye Loe of Billings, MT; also numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and even great-great nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Emma and Lloyd Loe; his brother Marlin (Spud) Loe, sister-in-law Joy Loe, brothers-in-law Dennis Stenberg, Carl Anderson, Eric Paulson and William Koko; his nephews Carl Anderson and Daryl Anderson; his nieces Susan Anderson and Nancy Stenberg; great nephew Daniel Bogers, and great-great niece Emma Jacobson


PRAYER SERVICE: Thursday at 7PM, Evans FH, NR

FUNERAL SERVICE: First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND

DATE AND TIME: Friday, November 8, 2013 at 10:30AM

BURIAL: Warwick Cemetery (at a later date)

Message: Our prayers are with you in the passing of Michael. We were neighbors in Devils Lake and it was during our visits that persuaded me to pursue a degree in education. I went on to spend 40 years in the classroom. I retired two years ago but am now back in the classroom as a substitute teacher in Grand Forks. May God bless you in the coming days.
