Marcella Munson

Marcy Munson, age 70, of Cavour, SD, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Huron Regional Medical Center following an 8 year battle with cancer.

Over the past 8 years, as Marcy struggled with the diagnosis of cancer, she maintained a quiet inner strength of dignity and grace, while uplifting the spirits of her family and friends. Her determination to fight this illness and emerge victorious was always at the forefront of her efforts. She would not allow this illness to shatter her hope, erode her faith, or destroy her courage.

Marcy Munson was born Marcella Ann Lesmeister, daughter of Marcus and Leona (McAvoy) Lesmeister, on June 1, 1941, in New Rockford, ND. She graduated from New Rockford High School in 1959. She then attended and graduated from Dakota Business College at Fargo, ND, with an Associate Degree in business.

Following her graduation, Marcy moved back to New Rockford and worked as a bookkeeper for Archie Campbell Construction Company.

On June 19, 1965, Marcy married Lawrence “Larry Munson in New Rockford. They lived in various locations in the upper Midwest, moving to Cavour, SD, in 1980, where they have lived to the present time. She worked for many years at Huron University doing word processing, and was later promoted to the position of business office manager of the university. Over the last 17 years she was in management positions for Casey Convenience Stores in Huron.

Marcy was a past member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cavour and St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron, a present member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, and an active member and past officer of the Sons of Norway.

Family was always a priority for Marcy, and she loved the time that she could spend with her grandchildren. Her other interests included making Christmas ornaments, collecting Christmas bells, angels, and other items for Christmas, and displaying her very large Christmas Village that she had created. Marcy and Larry traveled extensively visiting family, and several years ago they rode the train around America. In her early years she enjoyed outdoor activities with her family including camping, boating, water skiing, hunting and fishing.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Cavour; 1 daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Williams of Aberdeen; 3 sons, Jerry (Elaine) Munson of Jenson Beach, FL, Mark Munson of Castle Rock, CO, and James (Kris) Munson of Castle Rock, CO; 5 grandchildren, Jared Munson, Samantha Williams, Alexandra Williams, Carolyn Munson, and Alexis Munson; 2 brothers, Jerry (Nancy) Lesmeister of Weeki Wachee, FL, and Marty (Cindy) Lesmeister of New Rockford, ND; 1 sister, Nyla Roberts of Mellette, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Daryl Roberts.
