In 1953, the Mauchs sold their farm and built a home in New Rockford where Edwin started a construction business.  For the next twelve years he built and remodeled many homes in and around New Rockford.  In 1965, Edwin, Opal and family moved to Minnesota.  Edwin continued doing carpentry work, first working for a cabinet shop and later working as a finish carpenter.
