Norma Messmer

Norma I. Messmer, 87, formerly of Kensal, ND, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND.

 

Norma Ione Kollman was born on November 12, 1927, to Jesse and Ella (Partlow) Kollman in Bordulac, ND.  She was educated in Bordulac, where she graduated from Bordulac High School. While in high school, she played basketball and was named All-State guard 3 years in a row. On July 23, 1945, Norma married Robert Messmer in the Catholic Church in Bordulac, ND. They lived in Cathay and Bordulac in their early years of marriage, and moved to Kensal in 1959. They lived there until 2008, when they moved to East Grand Forks, MN. In 2009, they moved to Fargo, and  Robert Messmer died on May 4, 2010. Norma has lived at Bethany Homes since that time.

 

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Altar Society. She also taught CCD classes for many years. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

 

Norma is survived by 12 children: Bob (Dorothy) of Elma, WA; Glenn (Kathy) of Vail, AZ; Joe (Marcie) of Nampa, ID; Dean (Barb) of Four Corners, WY; Deb (Mike) Alexander of Winnemucca, NV; Ginger (Mike) Goodman of Cary, NC; Dan of West Fargo, ND; Brian (Becky) of Twin Falls, ID; Connie (Jason) Gagelin of Grand Forks, ND; Teresa (Jody) Walker of Grand Forks, ND; Darren (Kelly) of Bismarck, ND; Kelly (Chereste) of Buffalo, SD; daughter-in-law Janel Messmer of Fargo, ND; son-in-law Tony Rhodes of Arlington, TX; one brother James (Dolly) Kollman of Hoquiam, WA; two sisters: Arlene Schroeder of Carrington, ND and Bethel Morlock of Aloha; OR; sister-in-law Jeanette Partlow of Moorhead, MN; 35 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert, son James, daughter Joan Rhodes, and brother Darrell “Buck” Kollman.

 

The Messmer family would like to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. Mom will be greatly missed.
