Mavis Miller

Mavis Miller, 88, of Carrington, ND, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.

Mavis Maxine Radke was born May 13, 1929, in Rexine Township, Kidder County, ND. She was the daughter of Rudolph and Gertrude (Philbrick) Radke. She attended school in Rexine Township, and graduated from Heaton High School in 1947. She attended college in Valley City, and then taught school for 1 term in Rexine.

Mavis was united in marriage to Lloyd Miller on June 30, 1948, at Heaton Congregational Church.   They farmed at the family farm near Heaton until retiring in 1987. They later moved to Carrington.   Lloyd passed away September 15, 2009, and Mavis had been living at Poplar Court in Carrington.

Mavis loved gardening, reading, genealogy, quilting and needlework. She had bowled and enjoyed camping for many years.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her 3 sons:  Nathan (Michelle), Phoenix, AZ, Jerome (Mary), Fargo, ND, and Brad (Sherri) Cando, ND; 7 grandchildren: Stacey (Dave) Poffenberger, Michael Miller, Matthew (Kathleen) Miller, Jesse Miller, Samantha Miller, Kasandra (John) Shipley and Stephanie Miller. She also leaves behind 3 great-grandchildren: Chloe and Chanson Poffenberger and Annabelle Miller; and her sister Beverly (Leland) Suckut of Carrington.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, and a grandson, Christopher Miller.
