Norbert Richter

Norbert E. Richter, age 88, of Sykeston, ND, died Monday, February 13, 2012, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

Norbert E. Richter was born on October 28, 1923, the son of Ed and Anna (Warta) Richter in Sykeston. He was raised and attended school at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School in Sykeston. In 1945, Norbert served in the US Army in France. He was Honorably discharged in 1946. He farmed upon returning home.

On November 29, 1961, Norbert was united in marriage to Cecilia Duchscherer at St. John’s Catholic Church in Blumenfeld, ND. They farmed near Sykeston until 1974, when they moved into Sykeston. Norbert was employed at Farmer’s Union Elevator until his retirement in 1982. He served on the City Council for 16 years and was Mayor for 6 years in Sykeston. Cecilia died on February 9, 2000.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Society, Bourke-Hollingsworth American Legion Post # 17 and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Sykeston, and VFW Post #3524 of Carrington. Norbert enjoyed shopping, fishing hunting, gardening, cooking, baking, casino trips, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was proud to become a Grandpa in 2011.

Norbert is survived by a daughter, Melinda (Bill) Almond of Sykeston; granddaughter, Brooke Almond; honorary granddaughter, Nyshele Nygaard; 11 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia; 5 brothers, Raymond, Francis, Leander, Nick, and Sylvester; his parents and in-laws.

Interment: St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery, Sykeston, ND
