Audrey Nygaard

Audrey Ellen Nygaard, age 68, of Austin, Texas died on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at St. David's South Austin Medical Center, after having been on hospice care due to long-standing health issues.


Audrey was born on May 15, 1948 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, where her dad was working at the time. She was the first born child to Arden and Mary Jane (Satterlund) Nygaard. Her twin, Arden Charles, expired within 24 hours due to complications at birth.


Audrey grew up in New Rockford, North Dakota and graduated from New Rockford High School in 1966. Subsequently she graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.A. in Distributive Education and Home Economics.


She married David Porter on October 26, 1971. They resided at the Air Force Base in Grand Forks, North Dakota. They were blessed with three sons, David J. Porter, Brian Porter, and Phillip “Andy� Porter. Audrey and Dave divorced in the late 1970’s. Audrey’s career interests took her to several cities throughout her life time including Fargo and Jamestown, North Dakota; Alden, Michigan and St. Petersburg, Florida. She moved to Austin, Texas in 2009.


Over the years, Audrey was instrumental in developing and researching the Nygaard-Satterlund Family Tree histories. She had the gift of kindness and a compassionate heart that will not be forgotten by those who knew her. Her family was near and dear to her heart. Watching TV was her #1 hobby! Up until her death, she was able and always willing to use her home economics talent by taking on sewing projects for family and friends.


Audrey is survived by her three sons, David (Jordan) Porter, Brian Porter, and Andy Porter, all Austin, Texas; her father, Arden Nygaard, Fargo, ND; her siblings, Bruce Nygaard, Camp Verde, AZ, Alan (Mary) Nygaard, Syracuse NE, Diane Hendrickson, Bismarck ND, Gary Nygaard, St. Cloud, MN, Chris (Ray) Mering, Jamestown ND, Mike (Marsha) Nygaard, Fargo ND, Lyle Nygaard, Gillette WY, Tom Nygaard, Gillette WY, Jean (Mike) Fisher, Fargo ND, and Daryl (Angie) Nygaard, Austin TX; and by her nieces & great nieces, and nephews & great nephews.


She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Nygaard; her twin brother, Arden Charles; and one brother Duane Nygaard.
