Donna Mae O'Connor

Donna Mae O’Connor, age 81, of Jamestown, ND, formerly Bremen, ND, died Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Eventide, Jamestown.

Donna Mae Knudsen was born March 7, 1933 at Fargo, ND, the daughter of Rudy and Irene (Lies) Knudsen.  She attended grade school in Bremen, and attended high school at St. James Academy in New Rockford.   Donna Mae then attended Interstate Business College at Fargo.

On September 28, 1954, she was united in marriage to Ray O’Connor at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Bremen.  While Ray finished his Army service, Donna lived in Fargo and worked at Goldena Mills, West Fargo.  After Ray was discharged, they returned to Bremen where they operated the Bremen Bar for 40 years. They also had the grocery store, and Donna Mae later became the CPO of the Bremen Post Office.  After the closing of the store, she operated the PO out of the front of her home.  Donna Mae would also inform friends that she had served as the Constable of Bremen for quite a few years as well!  Ray died May 24, 1999.  Donna Mae moved to Jamestown in 2010 for medical reasons.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bremen, where she had been a member of the Christian Mothers and the Altar Society.

Donna Mae is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brothers Duane, James, and an infant brother.

Message: I am so fortunate to have met Donna Mae and Ray when I first moved to North Dakota.  I loved going to the Bremen Bar and hanging out with Donna Mae.  Then when she sold the bar, I would go and visit her at her home.  The conversations we had, I will never forget.  You will forever be in my heart!!

Message: Just heard from my sister in Devils Lake that Donna Mae had passed away. My condolences to her families, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Donna Mae was a cousin and we were in the same high school  graduation class at St James Academy. After graduation I joined the Air Force and only got back to New Rockford periodically so sort of lost touch. However, when we did get back for a visit we always made a point to go to the Bremen Bar for a visit with her and Ray. I always remember her as such a positive person, too bad there are not more people like her on this earth. May God bless and keep her.

Message: Donna Mae you will be missed. You & Ray became a part of my life when I was 16. When any one mentioned Bremen great memories of you came with it, and always will. You have always been an inspiration to me, to greet everyone with a smile and hello. Sorry I couldn't come to your funeral as I am recovering from cancer surgery again and can't be around that many people. As I'm sure the church will be packed. I went to the church and while lighting a candle for you said a prayer for all who will be missing you. God has another Angel!

Message: Condolences from Jodi and I.  While growing up, my brothers and I knew Donna Mae and Ray pretty well.  We would stop in at the store and get a candy bar or have a refreshing soda while hauling grain or running for other supplies.  When we got to be old enough we helped to keep the barley prices up by stopping in for a refreshing adult beverage.  Donna Mae was a constant in Bremen for so long that even after she had to move to Jamestown I always thought of Donna Mae and Bremen together.  While she was in Jamestown, I stopped in once in a while to say hello and to drop off some goodies my mom and sent.  She was always appreciative and curious for local news from "back home".

She will be missed.
