Beulah Rathe

Beulah Rathe, age 86, of Carrington, ND, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.

Beulah Burnette Blount was born August 1, 1928, in Brittin, ND to Harry and Frances Blount, the third of six daughters. She graduated from Fullerton High School, Fullerton, ND, and Ellendale Normal and Industrial School College, Ellendale, ND. Her marriage to Marvin Rathe was September 16, 1949; they lived in Moccasin, MT and Cando, ND before moving to Carrington in 1953.

For a number of years, she was a stay-at-home mom to Kathleen, Mark, Dean, Ross, and Paul. All of them loved her caramel rolls and were especially proud when she won blue ribbons at the Foster County Fair for her homemade bread. She worked at the Foster County Soil Conservation District and then at the law offices of William Kunkel/Robert Heinley/Tom Aljets. During that time, she was active in the National Association of Legal Secretaries and the American Legion/Auxiliary.

During her lifetime, she enjoyed playing pinochle, dancing to Big Band music (she and Marvin knew their way around the dance floor!), doing crossword puzzles, reading, and being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a patriot; she loved her country and her favorite colors were red, white and blue.

She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Joel) Zimmerman, Lakewood, CO; Mark (Evelyn), Tampa, FL; Dean (Mickey), Lakewood, CO; Paul (John), Denver, CO; four sisters: Rhoberta Wegner, Mandan, ND; Patricia Goodrich, Detroit Lakes, MN; Carmen Sorenson and Cleo Hicks, Bismarck, ND. Three grandchildren: Matt Zimmerman, Alex Rathe, Haley Rathe. Seven great-grandchildren: Isaac, Owen, Isabelle, Ophelia, and Amelia Zimmerman and Justine and Allie Rathe.

Beulah was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister; Joanne Richmire, two sons; Ross and James, and two grandsons; Robert Rathe and Andrew Zimmerman.

Donations may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, or the charity of your choice. Cards of Condolence may be sent to the family c/o Kathi Rathe Zimmerman, 1922 S. Queen Dr., Lakewood, CO 80227
