Rosella Richter

Rosella Richter, age 101, of Sykeston, ND, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, at home surrounded by family.

Rosella Helen Linhart was born March 21, 1916, in rural Sykeston, ND.  She was the second child of nine born to Frank and Helen (Hammes) Linhart. Rosella attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School in Sykeston, and St. Bonaventure School in Minneapolis, MN. She continued to live on her parent’s farm and worked in cook cars during the summer.

On November 27, 1945, Rosella was united in marriage to Leander F. Richter at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. Rosella and Leander moved to a farm SW of Sykeston where they dairy farmed for 35 years. In 1983, they retired and moved into Sykeston. Leander passed away on May 11, 2007.

Rosella was an avid gardener and seamstress all her life, as well as a cook and baker. She was particularly fond of her flowers and house plants.

Rosella and Leander had hearts of gold and were known to often take in children from the orphanage to care for them - one of whom continues to call them Mom and Dad today.

She is survived by son, Fred (Deb) Richter, of Sykeston, daughter Marie Richter, of Jamestown: two grandsons, James and Samuel, both of Sykeston; a foster daughter Angela (Al) Schmaltz, of Linton, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis Linhart, Grapevine, TX, and Eugene (Carolyn) Linhart, Simi Valley, CA; brother-in-law Dennis Heley, Moorhead, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Rosella was preceded in death by her husband Leander, parents, brothers William, Clarence, Louis, and Leo; and two sisters Marie Haster and Marjorie Heley.
