Daniel Rimmereid

Daniel Lawrence Rimmereid, 91, went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2017, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.

Daniel was born December 9, 1925, to John and Bertha (Lundeby) Rimmereid, in Lake Washington township of Eddy County, where he also attended school.

He enlisted in the Merchant Marines and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.   On September 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Vivian Gedrose on the Gedrose family farm, near Brantford, ND, as the First Lutheran Church was being constructed.  They made their home on the family farm near New Rockford.  Daniel and Vivian were happily married for 66 years, and they moved into New Rockford in 1980.

Daniel farmed the land that he loved for his entire life. He retired in 1990, but continued to help his son farm for 25 more years, until 2015. His true passion was farming the land and being outdoors. In addition to that, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling, shuffleboard and spending time with family.  Daniel had a love for family; it was something he took great pride in and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events of all kinds.

Daniel was an active member of First Lutheran Church and served on numerous boards and committees in the church and the community.

Daniel is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Vivian, New Rockford; two sons, Dennis (Luann) Rimmereid, New Rockford, and Jerrold Rimmereid, Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Jeanette (Steve) Ackerman, Wahpeton, ND, and Elaine (Steve) Gehrtz, Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren, Todd Rimmereid, Nikki Rimmereid, Dan (Laura) Ackerman, Casey  (Winter) Ackerman, Jessica Gehrtz, Matthew (Kjerstin) Gehrtz, and Michael Gehrtz; one great-grandchild, Sylver Zimmerman, and one brother, Arthur Rimmereid, Maplewood, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Knut and Oliver, and one sister, Gudrid Haven.

Message: Our hearts go out to you, Steve and Elaine.  We know how difficult it is to say goodbye - even if just for awhile - to those who raised us and supported us with good advice, patience, and understanding.  We know that while they've left this world, they still live and we'll be reunited again - and this time for eternity.  May God's grace cover you, and may your Dad's funeral give glory to the Father, and comfort to your family.

Message: My deepest sympathies to Vivian and all the family.  I have fond memories of the good times my husband and I spent with Daniel and Vivian when we would return to New Rockford.  Vivian and I were schoolmates from the 5th grade on, first in Columbia School and then New Rockford H.S. and dear friends from then on.  May God comfort you all in your loss.  God Bless!
