Harold Rud

Harold Norman Rud, age 94, of Binford, ND, formerly New Rockford and Sheyenne, ND, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

Harold was born August 25, 1918, in New Salem, ND, the son of Fred and Anna (Hendrickson) Rud.  He was one year old when his family moved back to the family farm at Sheyenne, ND.  Harold lived and worked on the family farm until he was inducted into the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, MN, on October 1, 1942.  Harold did his basic training at Camp Phillips, Kansas, where he worked in surgery.  He was then a surgical technician at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, CO.  He was awarded the American Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Citation for Meritorious Service.  He was discharged February 23, 1946, at Fort Logan, CO.

Harold was united in marriage to Carol Stensland June 23, 1955, at First Lutheran Church in Sheyenne.  They made their home near Hendrickson Park west of Sheyenne for 38 years.  Besides farming, Harold worked for Warren Implement, Westby Construction, Stensland & Son’s, Ostby Oil, and Logan Oil, all of Sheyenne.   In 1993, they moved to New Rockford, where they lived until moving to Binford in September 2012, to be closer to their children.

He enjoyed leather work, wood crafts and gardening.  He took great pride in his beautiful roses, tulips and glads.

Harold will be missed and remembered by his wife of 57 years, Carol; 3 daughters, LaRae (Dave) Iverson of Hunter, ND, Joni (Robert) Barclay and Barbara (Dan) Gilbertson, both of Binford, ND; 8 grandchildren: Travis (Kassie) Barclay, Joshua Barclay, Derek Barclay (Keshia Rickford), Brittany Barclay (Dylan Frappier), Ciara (Ben) Clark, Brandon Iverson (Naomi Hohertz), Zachary Gilbertson, Jesse Gilbertson; 7 great-grandchildren: Makenzie, Ethan, Brooklyn, Bentley and Sky Barclay, Sherman Geer, Landon Hohertz; one brother Norris (Gloria) Rud, New Rockford; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Gladys (Pete) Tveito, and a niece Shirley Rud.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Grandfield Lutheran Church, rural Sheyenne, ND
