Russell D. Sherman, Sr.

Russell D. Sherman Sr., age 83, of Carrington, ND, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at his home under the care of Presentation Hospice.

Russell D. Sherman was born in West Union, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Cecel Sherman. He grew up and attended school in Fayette, Iowa. Russ came to the Carrington area with the harvest. He and his father, Glenn, had a semi and trailer for hauling grain.

On September 25, 1951, Russell was united in marriage to Ellen Gruntjes at St. Francis Catholic Church in Fayette, Iowa. They made their home in Carrington for 60 years. Russ was a Master Plumber and Sheet Metal Fabricator. He worked and owned his own business in Carrington for 60 years. He also had a farm with cattle and horses.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Church in Carrington, a member of the Eagles in New Rockford, ND. Russ loved riding his Indian motorcycle, horses, and driving his team of horses. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, horse racing and traveling. Russ loved spending time with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Russell will be remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Ellen; four sons, Russ of Carrington, James (Julie) of Carrington, Glenn (Lisa) of Linton, ND, and Daniel, of Colorado Springs, CO; three daughters, Margaret Forsberg, Bonney Lake, WA, Kathleen Bravetti, Lacey, WA, and Karin Sherman, Carrington, ND; 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sheila Sebring, Henryetta, OK.

He was greeted in heaven by his parents; one granddaughter, Chyanne Steinbach; one great-grandson, Wyatt Sherman; and one nephew, Tony Sanseverino.
