Elsie Schroeder

 

Elsie V. Schroeder, age 87, of Carrington, ND, died Monday, May 18, 2015, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, ND.

Elsie was born on September 17th, 1927, to Ole and Vivian (Harding) Holland at the old Carrington Hospital. She grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Carrington High School. While attending high school, Elsie worker at the J.C. Penney Store. After graduation, she was employed as a clerk and bookkeeper by the Foster County State Bank in Carrington. Elsie later worked at different department stores in Carrington for 20 years, and then was employed at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington for 10 years.

On November 19, 1948, Elsie was united in marriage to Paul Schroeder at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington. Together, they lived and raised their family on the Schroeder homestead family farm for 60 years, until the time of Paul’s death in 2009. Elsie moved to Carrington in 2011.

Elsie was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Carrington. For over 30 years she served as an Aid Association Officer for Lutherans in Branch 647. She was a lifetime member of the Carrington Health Center Auxiliary, also having held membership with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Kelly Creek Homemakers Club. Elsie enjoyed baking and embroidery; while always ready to give a helping hand on the farm.

She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn (Martin) Sjursen, Tucson, AZ; daughter-in-law, Candice (Clark) Schroeder; and five grandchildren; Timothy Schroeder, Carrington, Rachel Schroeder, Jamestown, Anne Marie Sjursen-Guerrero (Carlo), Phoenix, AZ, Kari Sjursen, Tucson, Ryan Sjursen, Tucson; one brother, Orville Holland, Carrington; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Schroeder, Carrington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; their son, Larry; and her parents Ole and Vivian Holland.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Golden Acres Manor Foundation, or Carrington Cemetery Association.
