Harvey Solberg

Harvey A. Solberg, 61, Devils Lake, ND, died Saturday May 31, 2014, at Sanford Health Rehabilitation Center, Fargo ND

Harvey Arnold Solberg was born March 1, 1953, in Cando, ND, to Arnold & Gustina (Moore) Solberg. He grew up in the Hampden, ND, area and graduated from high school there. He later attended North Dakota State School of Science (NDSSS) at Wahpeton, ND, and received a degree in Automotive Technology. In 1974, he married Tammy Miller, and two daughters, Kari and Kayla, were born to them. They later divorced.

He worked as a mechanic at several automotive dealerships in Wahpeton and also at 3M. He later moved to Valley City, ND, where he worked as a service manager, then started working at Drug Plastics and Glass. In 1995, Harvey moved to Devils Lake and taught Automotive Technology at the Vocational Center.  During that time, he also was Assistant Director of Housing at Lake Region State College (UND-LR).  At the time of his death, Harvey was employed as ADH at the college full time.

On January 19, 2002, he married Monica Andersen in the chapel of Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. He was an avid outdoorsman. He shared his passion of horses with Kari, his love of hunting with Kayla, and motorcycle cruises with Monica. His other interests include buying, selling, and trading firearms, camping, and fishing. To spread his enthusiasm for his hunting passion, Harvey assisted with teaching archery classes and would take along anyone who was interested to his hunting haven near Sheyenne, ND. Harvey could spend hours in any sporting goods store, especially Cabela’s. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and was always willing to help others.   He was a loving husband and best friend to Monica, special Dad, and “Papa” to his little ones.

Harvey is survived by his wife Monica of Devils Lake; two daughters Kari (Alan) Idso of Erie, ND, Kayla (Justin) Henderson of Argusville, ND;  four grandchildren Lily & Jayda Henderson, Isaac & Ian Idso; three sisters Ruby (Dennis) Libby,  Wayzata, MN, Avis (Remy) Bourne, St Paul MN, and his twin Helen (Philip) Spaulding Andover, MN; one brother Dale (Lois) Solberg, Soldotna, AK; brother-in-law Bill Heitkamp of Hasty, CO; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold & Gustina Solberg, a sister Alice Heitkamp, and a great friend Jonathan Berglund.
