Robert W. Stern

Robert Stern, 90, of Carrington, ND, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Carrington Health Center.

Robert Wheeler Stern, the son of Jake and Sadie (Sharp) Stern, was born November 2, 1924, in Sykeston, ND. He was raised and attended school at Johnson Township School, rural Sykeston, for 8 years.

He married the love of his life, Mildred Hansen on April 26th, 1948 in Fessenden, ND. They were married for 60 years before Mildred passed away on July 1st, 2008.

Robert worked for 8 years at Hereford Farm & Ranch in Atwater, MN. They moved to Sykeston where he drove truck for Ted Clark Truck Line for many years.  Following that Bob worked at the Sykeston Public School in maintenance. Later in life he worked for Schulz Lumber in Carrington and then worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department, retiring after 18 years.

He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, walking his dog Toby, and visiting with family and friends.  Robert was a very hard worker, teaching his children to work hard as well. He was a wonderful father, husband and will be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by one son, Craig (Jane) Stern, Fargo, ND; one daughter, Janelle (Shawn) Marcotte, Carrington; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Stern (Phil Tintis), Carrington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; one son, Curtis; his parents, Jake and Sadie; one sister, Lyda Dell Kessler, and two brothers, Johnny and Eugene.
