Theresa Straley

Theresa Marie Straley, 86, Carrington, ND, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at her daughter’s home in West Fargo, ND.

Theresa was born February 12, 1930, in rural Bordulac, ND, to John and Margaret (Rensch) Wolf.  Theresa played in multiple sports at Bordulac High School, winning at least one state title in basketball, and later attended Valley City State Teachers College.  She had begun teaching in a one-room school house in Edmunds, ND, and later earned her teaching certificate.

On November 10, 1952, she married James Hugh Straley in Bordulac, and together they farmed and raised 16 children northeast of Carrington.  Theresa was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, North Dakota Farmers Union, and Foster County Fair. Theresa was always giving back to her community through many other associations including fixing hair at the Carrington nursing homes.  She enjoyed decades of playing cards, visits with family and friends over coffee, knitting, and crocheting.  She will forever be remembered for her crocheted doilies, homemade bread, cinnamon twists, and doughboys.

She leaves behind 16 children, Joseph, Avon, MN; Margaret Straley, Sioux Falls, SD; Monica (Brad) Pavek, Fargo; Jeannine (Jim) Nayes, Sunfish Lake, MN; Kathleen Berdahl, Carrington; LaVonne (Tom Fisher) Straley, Sandy Springs, GA; Paul, Carrington; Denise Jubert, Maple Grove, MN; Amelia (Joe) Tintes, West Fargo; Rynetta Renford, Roseville, MN; Leo (Dianne), Carrington; Ruth (Bill) Mangino, Mesa, AZ; Martin, Minot; Julia Straley, West Fargo; Lawrence (Dawn), South Haven, MN; and David (Bonnie), Bismarck,; 25 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Patricia Andes (twin), Parshall; Virginia (Carr) Freeman (Art), Carrington; and Amelia Nevares, Tacoma, WA.
