Vance Anderson

Vance D. Anderson, age 86, of New Rockford, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Vance was born November 15, 1925, in Rosefield Township Eddy County, the son of Gustav and Selma (Anderson) Anderson. He attended country school. Vance farmed and lived in the New Rockford area his entire life. He served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific, on the battleship USS Mississippi.


Vance was united in marriage to Doris Kittelson on December 6, 1979, at New Rockford. They lived on the Kittelson Farm south of New Rockford. Doris died June 15, 1988. Vance continued to live on the farm until he moved into Heritage House and then Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.


Vance was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion, and Central North Dakota Steam Threshers, all of New Rockford. He was a Charter Member of the Eagles, a member of Mid-State Shrine, both of New Rockford, El Zagel Temple, Fargo, and Order of Odd Fellows, Barlow.


He is survived by his step-daughter Pearl Kittelson, Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Dorothy Nern, Scottsdale, Arizona and Marjorie Curtiss, Chandler, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Vance was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers, Art, Bert, James, Kenneth, Harry; and three sisters, Elsie Neustader, Helen Bogenberger and Alice Jordan.
