Viola Erdelbrock

Viola L. Erdelbrock, age 89, of New Rockford, ND, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Viola Lenora Erdelbrock, known as Vi, was born March 31, 1922, on the family farm near Hamberg, ND, the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Erickson) Simonson. She was baptized at Eden Lutheran Church and confirmed at Grandfield Lutheran Church. Vi grew up and attended school west of Sheyenne.

In 1942, Vi married Alton Paulson, with whom she had one daughter and later became widowed. On December 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to Herbert L. Erdelbrock at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Rockford. They had two daughters and farmed for many years in Munster Township near New Rockford; they moved into New Rockford in 1987. Herb and Vi spent twenty winters in Texas and Nevada, enjoying their travels to and from North Dakota. Vi and Herb had celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary prior to Herb passing away on April 26, 2008.

Over the years, Vi, along with being a homemaker and helping on the farm, worked at the New Rockford Hotel, Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten, ND, and painted and wallpapered homes in the surrounding area. She also became the neighborhood beautician as she gave countless perms and haircuts.

Vi was a lifelong member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Eagles Auxiliary, Homemakers Club, Senior Citizen Center, and the American Legion Auxiliary in New Rockford. Vi enjoyed spending time and traveling with her family. She spent lots of time with her grandkids, baking, canning, gardening, growing flowers, playing cards with her friends, bowling, playing bingo, reading, and volunteering at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd. She was active in church, attending Bible study, teaching Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of the LWML. Her compassion and sweet demeanor brought years of comfort to those around her. Vi loved life and was always up for a trip.

Vi will be remembered and deeply missed by her two daughters, Jerilyn (Bob) Kaiser, Jamestown, ND, Cheryl (Bob Janzen) Erdelbrock, New Rockford; four grandsons, Wayne (Missy) Munson, Bismarck, ND, Shayne Munson, West Fargo, ND, Jason (Christina Anderson) Munson, New Rockford, Justin (Tiffany) Munson, New Rockford; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one son-in-law, Tom Munson; one sister, Vera Risovi, Harvey, ND; one sister-in-law, Clara Simonson, New Rockford, and many nieces and nephews.
