Message: Dear Grandma,  I have always held you in high esteem as 'Amelia Waliser', but more significantly, I will always hold you in the highest, loving esteem as my Grandma.  'Grandma Waliser'.   Even now, when I hear the pigeons cooing in my yard, I think of you, every day.  Their sound is so peaceful.  The pigeons called in the yard at the farm and that takes me back to the time I spent there during the summers of my adolescent years.  My fondest memory is of you and I in the sewing room.  During those days of your ever patient manner in teaching me to sew and sew well.I have come to realize that I had been groomed for the person I have become.  Because of you teaching me the importance of a perfectly stitched seam while we were sewing "Barbie" doll clothes and accepting nothing less than my best.  We did it, I did it, because of you!   So, since then and now, I strive to be the best I can be and no task is worth doing, unless it is done to the best of my ability.  Because of you, I am my best person.  Thank you Grandma. My love always,

  Debbie

Message: I did not know Aunt Amelia very well.  Being that my Dad was the "baby" of the Haba kids, and we lived in Seattle, there was not much connection over the years, except at family reunions.  However I was always so impressed with the stories of her strength and work ethic and how she worked so hard into her late 90's.  It is nice to hear the memories of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She lived a long and proud life - and she will be missed.

Message: Dear Grandma,

What I want you to know, you now truly know where you are. But I will say it anyway here. You were a great Grandma to me, the best. As a kid, the best years of my childhood were spent on the farm with you and Grandpa. You gave me some of the best experiences and memories I will ever have. There is a song that came out on the radio a little while ago and it reminds me of something you showed my in the sky one night. The song reminds me of when you took us outside to look at the night sky and there was a small little light racing across it. You told us it was the Apollo/Soyuz space station. I just picture, me, you and Scott, standing there in the front yard, looking up.... and it makes me smile. I play that song a lot. You always pointed out interesting and beautiful things to us.

Then there was the time you and Grandpa played a prank on us when you just disappeared and we couldn't find you. Scared the hell out of me, I thought God's rapture had come and I missed out.  I'm sure it was Grandpa's idea. I remember he always liked to play pranks on us just like any other grandpa would. I also remember how you and Grandpa would dance together. Man you guys were great at it and you looked so happy dancing together. You even tried to teach me in the front room a few times. Now I tell everyone, if they want to make their wives happy, then learn how to dance with them. I tried to with Brigitte, but she's always a half a beat ahead of me. We'll keep trying to get it right though.

I learned a lot up there, like respecting animals and nature for its beauty....except for gophers and mice. Grandpa showed us how to deal with them...and he would laugh when he saw our reaction to his "extermination" process. And from your bedroom window you would show us the deer coming out from the tree line behind the house. I'm reminded of this because of the deer I get to see now from the window at my house. With all that we experienced with you I was always taking pictures...something you would help me with and encourage me in. Now I've become a professional photographer...due in part to the time I spent with you. I know that sometimes we were a handful for you...but you still let us come back to visit year after year. We were "city slickers" learning about farm life...a great experience for us. How awesome are grandparents who have their grandkids with them for so many summers!!   Heck Grandma, just writing this brings up so many memories I am thankful for.

All of this to say, thank you Grandma, for all that you did for me, taught me and inspired me with. You may not know it, but you have made a great impact in my life. Because of spending time with you, I learned to work hard, be fair and be honest, be wise with my money and to appreciate God's creation. To be a man of integrity and honesty. You helped to build the foundation that makes me who I am today and I am so grateful to you! I live out in the open, in a small community, with animals and nature all around, a quiet place....because of how much I loved living on the farm with you and Grandpa. I look forward to having my grandkids coming over to my place, like we did with you, and sharing with them all the same things and experiences you shared with me. These are the things I wanted you to know. I think you've been a great and amazing woman all around through so many years and I appreciate and love you so much Grandma.

All my love,

Marty

Message: I only had the joy of seeing Amelia in person at a family reunion but Jim and I enjoyed her great letters and Christmas cards. Wow, Amelia sure was a powerhouse. I am truly amazed at all of the Habas of that generation. They are the hardest working bunch of people that I have ever met. Today, June 12th, Amelia's brother Edward (Jack) my father-in-law would have been 96 years old. I am sure they are now swapping stories up in heaven with the rest of the clan!
