Larry Wobbema

Larry Wobbema, age 63, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at his home under the care of his family and hospice.

Larry Robert Wobbema was born on September 1, 1950, in Carrington, ND, to Pete and Donna (Park) Wobbema. He was the first born of fifteen children. He was raised in the Carrington area and graduated from Carrington High in 1968. After graduating from the Bismarck Police Academy in 1971, he served as a police officer in Carrington, Valley City, ND, and Edmore, ND. Upon leaving that field, he worked at True Value, Holiday & Home of Economy, all of Devils Lake, ND, and Bessette Motors of Carrington, from where he had retired in December of 2013.

Larry had three daughters Nikki, Staci, and Vicki. On October 11, 2002, Larry married Jeanne Lacher in Devils Lake. They moved to New Rockford in 2007, after Jeanne’s retirement. From that union he gained two step-children, Lori and Daniel. Larry was blessed with fifteen grandchildren and would have become a great-grandfather this winter.

During Larry’s life, he enjoyed fishing, dancing, country music and old TV westerns. The most important things in Larry’s life were anything that involved his wife, his children, his grandchildren and doing odd jobs at his church.

Larry is survived by his wife Jeanne of New Rockford; three daughters Nicole (Mike) Lofgren of Fargo, ND, Staci (Jim Wilson) Kilma of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Victoria (Bruce Johnson) Wobbema of Devils Lake; two step-children Lori (Joe) Wetch of Fargo and Daniel (Erin) Lacher of Midland MI; seven sisters Pat (Ron) Gienger of Valley City, Joni Parks of Carrington, Sandy (Kyle) Straabe of Leeds, ND, Betty (Bob) Abel of Wilmington, OH, Nanette (Curtis) Sovey of Gillette, WY, Michelle Richardson of Jamestown, ND, and Tina Hermanson of New Rockford; four brothers Bob (Jolene) of Sioux Center, IA, Jeff (Linda) of Minot, ND, Bill of La Crosse, WI, and Jim (Ann) of Barlow, ND; a brother-in-law Lynn Schroeder of Carrington; fifteen grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Donna, grandparents, three sisters Becky, Debbie, and Peggy, and three brothers-in-law Harold "Red", Rob and Mike.

If it is your desire to honor Larry with a memorial, the family suggests First Lutheran Church Foundation or Prairie Home Cemetery, both of New Rockford.

Message: Just found out about Larry passing, my deepest sympathy to family. He was a man who worked hard and full of pride. I remember Larry driving my school bus, in the mornings he would call my house and say "Bring me up a cup of coffee or two, I was on duty all night and you're first on the bus and some toast or something up that hill when you walk to the bus".

Sincerely,

Bryon Hallwachs.

Message: Just found out about Larry's passing. Condolences to Larry's family. May God bring you peace and comfort during this difficult time. I have fond childhood memories of Larry. I remember when he and Becky stayed with Grandma Parks in the summer. All of us neighborhood kids would play softball in her yard or over at Piatz's. Just so many memories of our childhood. Last seen Larry in 1976 when I was home on leave from the AF. Goodbye dear friend.
