Edmund Bezdek

Edmund Raymond Bezdek, age 94, of Millbrae, CA, San Mateo county, entered into rest in South San Francisco after a brief illness on August 5, 2009.


Born at home in Glengary, Montana, the son of William and Louise (Pospisil) Bezdek, he was raised on a farm near Brooks, Montana. After graduating from the Billings Business College, he worked for the Farmers Union Company where he met the company president's daughter and the love of his life, Dorothy O'Connor of New Rockford, North Dakota.


After starting a family, he moved to Burlingame, CA, and joined the Internal Revenue Service. Additional training, jobs and moves brought him as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to St. Paul, MN, to Phoenix, AZ and finally to Millbrae to work again for the Internal Revenue Service.


Edmund was active with St. Dunstan Catholic Church, including its Saint Vincent De Paul Society, and Millbrae civic organizations such as the Senior Center's Tax Preparation services, New Comers, Millbrae's chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and has remained active with Sons in Retirement (SIRS) and the monthly birthday party at the Millbrae Senior Center. At one time he taught tax preparation for seniors at the College of San Mateo.


He is survived by daughter Marice Bezdek, PhD. of Kennett Square, PA, sons William Bezdek, MD, (his partner Luz) of Bakersfield, CA, Terrence Bezdek (his wife Margaret) of San Francisco, CA, D. Joseph Bezdek, DDS, Capt., USN, (Ret.) (his wife Kathleen) of Libertyville, IL, James Bezdek of Phoenix, AZ and Patrick Bezdek, MD, (his wife Lynda) of Santa Monica, CA, sister Elsie Stofer of Missoula, Montana, 12 grandchildren who serve as casket bearers at Edmund's request, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many cousins, nieces, nephews.


He was preceded in death by Dorothy, (nee O'Connor), his beloved wife of 65 years, on March 3, 2004.
